CIVIL ENGINEERING STAFF
PRESIDENT Aaron E. Nordman, P.E.
Aaron earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1997. He cultivated his interest in civil engineering early on as an independent excavation contractor working his way through school. Upon graduation, he began his professional career with an environmental engineering contractor in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. However, Michigan was always home and in 2001 he joined Performance Engineers, Inc. as a civil engineer and obtained licensure in Michigan.
At PEI, Aaron was responsible for project management, commercial and residential site design, roadway design, sanitary system design, and project inspection. He obtained additional licenses for drinking water and wastewater operation through the State and began growing the contract operations services at PEI. The blend of his construction background, operations experience, and engineering skills led to an increased involvement and expertise in municipal infrastructure.
He became a partner with James Malewitz (founder) and Robert “Boomer” Bomier in 2014, succeeding James as president of PEI upon his passing in 2020. As president, Aaron is committed to maintaining the core principals of Performance Engineers that James Malewitz began the company with: stewardship of company resources, stewardship of client resources and stewardship of public resources.
VICE PRESIDENT Brad W. Muma, P.E.
Brad began with Performance Engineers, Inc. as an intern in 2006 and then later came to work as a civil engineer in 2013 after completing his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. During his time at Performance Engineers, Inc., Brad has provided engineering design for several commercial site design projects, municipal infrastructure projects, and individual wastewater treatment systems. He has also been the resident project inspector for many road, water, and sanitary sewer projects, where his construction background has proved invaluable.
Brad became a partner at the company in 2021, increasing his involvement in the management of the contract operation services, materials testing, and municipal design. His ability to find straight forward solutions to complex infrastructure problems has been a huge asset to the Company. Brad continues to work on many large municipal projects, providing engineering design and project management.
In addition to his engineering responsibilities, he is also certified through the State for the operation of public wastewater and drinking water supply systems. Brad is a licensed Professional Engineer in Michigan.
CIVIL ENGINEER Charles W. Stein, P.E.
Chuck began is career in Ohio as a civil engineer working on site planning and development projects after graduating from the Ohio State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He moved to northern Michigan in the 1990's, working as an independent engineering consultant. He joined James Malewitz (founder) and Robert "Boomer" Bomier in 1998 as a partner at Performance Engineers, Inc. Chuck spent the next 16 years growing the company with Jim and Boomer until 2014 when he stepped out of the ownership. He continues to work on a project basis supporting the company with his vast knowledge of civil design.
Chuck's keen eye for detail and proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3d have helped to establish many of the design standards and quality control measures that ensure the plans produced by PEI are of the highest quality. Chuck has mentored and advised many PEI employees over the years and his involvement in the company continues to prove invaluable.
CIVIL ENGINEER Carl J. Rasch III, E.I.T.
Carl joined PEI in August 2020 as a new graduate. He has since become an E.I.T. and shown outstanding skills in site planning, residential and commercial septic design, storm water analysis/design, utility layout, site grading, proficiency in AutoCAD 3D, and survey work. Carl has shown extensive understanding of Civil Engineering from project start to completion.
Carl has roots in the community. He was born and raised in Boyne City-Charlevoix area, graduating from Boyne City High School in 2014 before completing his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. Carl previously worked with his father as the foreman for a tree service/ property management company where he gained many valuable skills and cultivated his interest in civil engineering. Carl currently lives in Boyne City area with his fiancé Bailey, son CJ, and their three cats.
STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING STAFF
STRUCTURAL ENGINEER Robert M. Bomier, P.E.
Bob or as many have come to know him as "Boomer" received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Specialty, in 1975 from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. Bob brought a wealth of structural design experience to the firm when he joined James Malewitz as a partner in 1996 as the manager of the newly created structural department. Prior to joining Performance Engineers, Inc., he worked with SSOE, Inc. where he was responsible for large-scale structural projects for commercial and government buildings located throughout the United States. As the structural engineering department head, Bob grew the company with Jim and Chuck for many years until retiring out of the ownership in 2021. He continues to work on a more limited basis, providing the same level of exceptional structural engineering expertise that our clients have come to rely upon.
Bob has over four decades of professional experience in the design and renovation of institutional, commercial, and industrial facilities. His experience includes the design of structures of all types and materials. Areas of particular specialty include the design of low and medium rise commercial facilities and the design of heavy timber and glulam construction.
STRUCTURAL ENGINEER Bryan W. Lindfors, P.E.
STRUCTURAL ENGINEER Benjamin T. Thoune, P.E.
Bryan has over thirty years of experience structural engineering and is Licensed in Michigan. He has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Washington State University.
After college, he gained extensive experience with concrete design and construction while working for a parking structure consultant in Kalamazoo. Those projects included numerous multi-story, pre-stressed concrete parking structures constructed throughout the mid-west. As experience and career demands increased, the desire to obtain a different work-life balance led him to Performance Engineers in 1998, where he worked for 14 years. While at Performance, he served as the project manager and structural engineer for several steel, masonry, concrete and timber-framed commercial and residential building projects. He also has completed forensic investigations, due diligence, and expert witness trial testimony experience. Bryan rejoined Performance in the spring of 2022 following a nine and a half year hiatus. During this time, he worked as a technical resource engineer; advising and educating owners, engineers, and manufacturers about the application and design of precast concrete modular block and mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls, and as the in-house structural engineer for a high-end home designer
Ben graduated from Michigan State University in 2015 with a bachelor of science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Upon graduation, Ben worked with an engineering firm that specialized in environmental remediation and site redevelopments as a Construction Engineer working closely with the design team and the contractors onsite. Originally from Menominee, MI, Ben has worked on various projects throughout the United States gaining experience in geotechnical, civil, and structural aspects of the industry. The environmental focused projects included landfill redevelopment, in-situ stabilization, and manufactured gas plant remediation.
In his free time Ben enjoys exploring Michigan rivers and streams, hiking, and golfing. Ben is excited to settle down in Northern Michigan where he can work with the local community, while spending time with his family.
