President
James B.
Malewitz, P.E. is a 1979
Michigan State University School of Engineering graduate with a BA
degree in Civil Engineering. He began his engineering career with
Gilbert Commonwealth & Associates and has since worked extensively
in the design-engineering field. In addition, he gained valuable
experience working with Consumers Energy and Charlevoix Abstract &
Engineering. His background also includes field surveying. Jim is a
licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Michigan.
In September 1990,
Jim formed Performance Engineering as a sole proprietor. During this
time, he was responsible for all aspects of project engineering, from
planning and designs to construction management. Throughout his twenty
years in the engineering field, he has gained considerable experience
with overall site development. His experience includes the design of
roadway and utility systems for both private and commercial developers,
as well as a vast knowledge of storm and sanitary sewer systems. Jim
has worked on numerous infrastructure improvement projects with several
local municipalities. These projects include parking lot design, storm
drainage, lift stations, sanitary sewers, water mains, docks, and
boating ramps.
Over the ensuing
years, the company has shown continued growth and has gained a
reputation for serving clients effectively. Performance Engineers
incorporated in 1998 and is currently controlled by three partners.

Vice President
Robert M.
Bomier, P.E. received his
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Specialty,
in 1975 from Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan.
Bob brought a wealth of structural design experience to the firm when
he joined in 1996 as the manager of the newly created structural
department. Prior to joining Performance Engineers, Inc., he worked
with SSOE, Inc. where he was responsible for large-scale structural
projects for commercial and government buildings located throughout the
United States.
Bob has 27 years of
professional experience in the design and renovation of institutional,
commercial, and industrial facilities. His experience includes the
design of structures of all types and materials. Areas of particular
specialty include the design of low and medium rise commercial
facilities, the design of heavy timber and glulam construction and the
design of gray iron foundry melt equipment.
While working with
Performance Engineers, Inc., Bob has been involved with several
projects involving structural design as well as the analysis of new
structures such as hotels and commercial facilities. These projects
include the Inn at Bay Harbor, Shops of Bay Harbor and the Kalkaska
Sports Complex. Bob is a registered engineer in both Michigan and
Wisconsin.

Vice President
Charles W.
Stein, P.E. joined the firm
in 1998 as a principal partner. Chuck brought with him 10 years of
experience in site planning and development. His background includes
work with SSOE, Inc. where he was responsible for all phases of site
design, including construction and utility plans, state and county
roadway design and bridge projects. He also worked as an independent
engineering consultant with his own engineering firm.
Chuck has been
involved in several large-scale projects in the northern Michigan area,
including a sports complex featuring an indoor ice arena and swimming
pool. He was also involved in the addition to North Central Michigan
College in Petoskey, Michigan. Chuck has been responsible for the
design and supervision of numerous site development projects for both
private and commercial developers. He is extremely proficient with
computers and the technical software found in the engineering industry.
Chuck holds a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the Ohio State
University in Columbus, Ohio. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in
both Michigan and Ohio.

Project Engineer
Aaron E.
Nordman, P.E. earned his Bachelor of Science
Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1997.
Aaron cultivated his interest in civil engineering early on as an independent contractor
serving residential clients with sewer drainage and excavation/grading projects before
later pursuing his degree.
Aaron began his professional career
with SEMS, Inc. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as a staff engineer responsible for project
activities such as soil and groundwater samplings, preparation of work plans and cost
estimates, field activities and report preparation. After two years he assumed the
responsibilities of project manager and was involved in such projects as the construction
of a 3-acre landfill cell, management of a million dollar contract with the FAA to provide
inspection and repair of emergency power systems, and the installation, repair and removal
of fuel storage tanks.
Aaron joined Performance Engineers, Inc.
in 2001 and brought with him a vast knowledge of civil and environmental engineering. He is
currently responsible for project management, commercial and residential site design, roadway
design, sanitary system design, and project inspection. He is also involved in several municipal
projects, as well. Aaron has recently completed additional training and is now a Certified Operator
for Construction Site Storm Water.

Structural
Engineer
Bryan W.
Lindfors, P.E. has
considerable experience in the design and construction of structural
projects using concrete, steel, timber and masonry. He is responsible
for all phases of construction document preparation, including
calculation, design, detailing, drawing, specification preparation and
presentation of construction documents. In addition, Bryan has
extensive field experience reviewing the structural aspects of
construction projects.
Prior to joining
Performance Engineers, Inc., Bryan worked for eight years at Carl
Walker, Inc. in Kalamazoo, Michigan. There he was a project manager
responsible for the design of numerous multi-level prestressed concrete
parking structures throughout the Midwest. Bryan has a great deal of
experience designing and detailing foundations and superstructures
using both conventionally reinforced and prestressed concrete. His
experience as a project manager included the responsibility for all
aspects of the design and construction process. Bryan has also written
several structural investigative reports and has prepared numerous
concrete restoration repair documents.
In 1990, Bryan
earned his Masters of Science degree in Civil Engineering at Washington
State University with his thesis work in timber tension connection. He
received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan
Technological University in 1989. During his college years, he gained
valuable experience while working for the Isabella County Road
Commission where he conducted surveying and construction inspection. He
is currently a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan.

Engineering
Technician
Robert J.
Fitzgerald earned his
Associates of Applied Science in Civil Technology degree in 1977. Since
then, Bob has worked as a civil technician in various capacities
including technical drafting and inspection work for underground
utilities, bridge construction and paving projects.
Bob joined the
staff of Performance Engineers, Inc. in 1995 as an engineering
technician. He has proven himself to be a valuable addition to the
company by providing solid technical support as well as expert
inspection services for a variety of construction projects.

Designer
Janet Koch joined Performance Engineers, Inc. in 2001
as a CAD operator responsible for civil engineering drafting. Janet
brought with her a broad base of knowledge with a background that
includes project management, database management, tax mapping, desktop
publishing, and of course, experience creating a vast array of
engineering and survey drawings. She is highly skilled in the use of
software packages that include AutoCad, Eagle Point, TerraModel,
Illustrator, Pagemaker and Access.
Her employment
background includes thirteen years at Holland Engineering, Inc. in
Holland, Michigan. In addition, she worked for civil engineering and
surveying firms in Wallingford, Connecticut and Zeeland, Michigan.
In 1984, Janet
earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Eastern Michigan
University, with a minor in Cartography.
